On my way home from Soho the other night I came across Bubbleology, a cool little place that serves bubble tea in 13 different flavours. Originating in Taiwan, bubble tea was invented in the early 1980’s. A huge craze that moved its way towards the rest of Asia and ended up in North America and Australia has now found a home here, in London.
So what is bubble tea? It is fruit or milk flavoured teas with natural chewy tapioca balls that sit on the bottom of the cup and can be slurped up through a fat straw.
My first experience of one of these drinks was years ago when my friend dragged us to China Town for some crispy pork with rice and bubble tea. She is also the same friend that introduced me to raw pork. Both of which I love.
Bubbleology is also set to open up in Harvey Nichols by July 2011.
